Jeff King joined Brian Connolly's Sweet in February 1996, replacing Russ Mahoney on Drums. A great drummer and singer, Jeff had been involved in many bands in both the UK and in Europe, achieving great success in Denmark during the 1980's as a session and live player before returning to the UK and working with In The Flesh, which featured Richard and Fred Fairbrass, later of Right Said Fred.
Jeff revitalised Brian's band, being very enthusiastic and fitting in quickly. Jeff played his first date with the band at St Albans in March 96. A video of this show has recently come to light and will be uploaded shortly. Further dates in Edinburgh and Bognor Regis followed, with an 11 date German tour taking place in May. The photos above were taken during that tour, are from Jeff's private collection and are reproduced courtesy of Mik Smith.
Jeff features on the Mentorn films television documentary 'Don't Leave Me This Way', which aired during 1996 and was filmed during Brian Connolly's Sweet's 12 week residency at Butlins Bognor and Minehead. Jeff was fiercely loyal to Brian, remaining a member of his band to the end, playing Brian's final shows in Bristol UK and Switzerland in December 1996.
Following Brian's passing in February 1997, Jeff took part in the tribute gig at Butlins Bognor on February 28th before co-forming the tribute band BC Sweet.
Very sadly, Jeff passed away a few years later, as a result of multiple myeloma
R.I.P. Jeff.
