BC SWEET was the name original SWEET vocalist Brian Connolly gave his band during the 1980's and 1990's. A firm favourite on the European Seventies concert scene, Brian toured constantly until his death in early 1997.
After Brian's sad passing, members of his band fulfilled his final booking, a Seventies extravaganza weekend show at Butlins Holiday Centre in Bognor Regis UK. Such was the reaction, that the former members of Brian Connolly's Sweet made the decision to continue as a tribute to their former friend and band leader.
Early BC SWEET shows were a 3 piece affair, featuring bassist Dave Glover, guitarist Glenn Williams and drummer Jeff King. In May 1997, the band played their first shows with a four piece line up, with former Roger Chapman/Rick Wakeman guitarist Ant Glynne. These shows in Edinburgh and Berlin with Christie & Middle of The Road created considerable interest and established BC SWEET's reputation as a dynamic tribute showband. Later in 1997, the BC SWEET guitar position was filled by former Mud star Syd Twynham, and the band embarked on the first of 4 annual UK tours with Slade. In 1998, Jerome Marcus took over on drums in time for the annual Slade tour and the following year, BC SWEET recorded the Sweet's hit catalogue for an album which continues to sell throughout Europe and online.
Various guests appeared with BC Sweet including original SWEET bassist Steve Priest, original SWEET guitarist Frank Torpey, the Tremeloes Chip Hawkes on lead vocals for two shows, the Glitter Band's Gerry Shephard as lead guitarist and the Arrows' Alan Merrill, as special guest at 1999's London Hard Rock Cafe tribute to Brian Connolly.
This BC SWEET line up played until 2000.
